Snow Throwers
<< Power Products Home
The development of household use compact snow throwers for the North American market began with the HS35 in 1980. Honda now has a lineup of snow thrower models, from 5 to 24 horsepower.
Up until recently, operating snow throwers required getting used to the unit and learning the knack of operation. The HS1390i, released in 2001, was developed as a new concept hybrid with the objective of being a snow thrower that would be easy for anyone to use. The snow thrower in this hybrid unit is driven by the engine, and the travel mechanism is driven by an electric motor, setting a new standard for ease of use. The HSM1590i, introduced in 2005, represents a new age in snow throwers that combines the nextgeneration iGX440 general purpose engine with a hybrid system, and an electronically controlled snow throwing mode select function provides superior ease of operation and a high level of performance for even novice operators, while achieving a world class level of environmental friendliness. Fuel economy has been boosted 22% compared to the HS1390i, and snow removal time reduced by approximately 30%.

Communication of the ECU for the iGX440 engine and snow thrower ECU allows the travel speed and throttle opening to be controlled so that engine rpm can be maintained at a constant level for the workload. This new technology allows the auto mode, power mode or manual mode to be easily selected with a dial according to the skill and experience level of the operator, ensuring snow removal work can be efficiently and effectively performed.

Hybrid System
With the hybrid system, the engine generates electricity to drive the travel unit motor while it drives the snow-throwing unit. The unique system that uses a motor to drive the travel unit allows smooth travel by means of computer control and optimum speed control according to the workload, making it easy for even novice operators to perform snow removal work that would require considerable experience with other units.
