Building a framework of craftsmanship as Honda's model for the world
Honda's operations in Japan play a key role in global operations by working to develop advanced technologies and coordinate worldwide business efforts for optimal performance. In the manufacturing domain, Honda is opening a new plant in Ogawa-machi, Saitama in 2009 that will produce next-generation, environmentally responsible automobile engines. Honda is also boosting production of automobile automatic transmissions at its Hamamatsu Factory. In the motorcycle area, where domestic manufacturing being consolidated at Honda's Kumamoto Factory is the most advanced operation of its kind in the world, Honda is focusing on high-efficiency, high-quality production systems to meet worldwide demand. With a renewed commitment to craftsmanship, Honda is focusing on further refining its advanced technology in Japan and horizontally sharing its expertise and know-how with Honda production facilities around the world to create products that bring customers joy.

Unique Honda initiatives on display in the Japanese market
Japan plays an important role as a major market for Honda innovation. In the Japan motorcycle market, for example, Honda equips a majority of Honda scooters and various mid- and large-sized motorcycles with a programmed fuel injection system (PGM-FI), which improves fuel efficiency and environmental performance. In the Japan automobile market, Honda launched the new Freed compact minivan in early 2008, a fully remodeled Life in November 2008, a new Accord series in December 2008, and the new Insight in February 2009. The new Insight is Honda's first Hybrid model targeted at a large market segment. In the Japan power products market, Honda began selling its non-silicon thin-film solar cell for public and industrial use, as well as a new Pianta mini-tiller that runs on user-friendly cassette gas commonly available for use in portable gas stoves. Fully committed to serving its customers, Honda will continue expanding its lineup of eco-responsible products.
