Honda's R&D system is the driving force behind Honda's capability to continue to create advanced, unique technology that gives birth to original power products of true value. Honda Power Products Development Center specializes in the research and development of Honda power products. The center is comprised of Planning, Technological Development and Product Development divisions. Each of these divisions has clear roles and responsibilities, and the organization is managed in such a way as to maximize the motivation of developers and foster speedy decision-making through smooth communication.
The birth of the iGX440 next-generation multipurpose engine, household compact cogeneration unit and other such products are the result of a two-step process: Conducting research to accurately identify the wishes and needs of customers, and developing the required technology and product concepts.

iGX440 Next-Generation Multipurpose Engine
The iGX engine is the first in the world that incorporates "STR governor" electronic rpm control technology in order to facilitate constant control of the throttle opening and rpm. Furthermore, communication with the ECU in the power product enables optimum control of the engine according to the diverse range of work that is being performed.

Generator with Sine-Wave Inverter
This Honda generator incorporates a unique sine-wave inverter, enabling it to provide a stable supply of high-quality electricity for PCs and communication equipment. It is the first generator in the world that features 100V/200V dual voltage and a sine-wave inverter.

Four-Stroke Outboard Engine Technology
In addition to incorporating compact, lightweight technologies, Honda four-stroke outboard engines were the first to adopt the variable valve timing lift (VTEC) mechanism used in automobiles, variable intake system, electronic fuel injection unit (on BF200/225), achieve lean burn using electronic fuel injection system with LAF feedback sensor (on BF135/150), as well as various other features, providing high performance and economical operation.

Compact Household Cogeneration Unit
Combining the GE160V world's smallest gas engine with unique Honda sine-wave inverter technology and a high-efficiency heat exchanger with integrated catalyst, has enabled the development of a compact household cogeneration unit (overall energy efficiency of 85%) for the first time in the world. The GE160V engine has a durability of approximately 20,000 hours.
