Groundwater in England
Power Products Home > The Power Stories
In order to protect the environment, English law requires that groundwater be tested regularly in locations such as factories, gas stations, and landfills built on garbage. Equipped with an ultracompact 4-stroke Honda engine that can be inclined to any angle through 360 degrees, the Waterra "Power Pack PP1" is used to pump up samples of water through narrow boreholes drilled into the ground.
Waterra UK developed the pump, which despite its small size can pump water up from as far down as 90m. Many of the people conducting the monitoring are women, so making the pump as small and lightweight as possible was an absolute requirement. Peter Dumble, one of the company's principles, tells us. "We used to use pumps with a 2-stroke engines. But after switching to Honda 4-stroke engines, we were able to achieve easier use of the pumps and greater reliability, in addition to protecting the environment as it generates lower exhaust emissions."
