All-New CR-Z Hybrid Vehicle Introduced in Japan

All-New CR-Z Hybrid Vehicle Introduced in Japan (06:00)

Released: February 25, 2010

President and CEO, Takanobu Ito

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to attend the CR-Z launch. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for your understanding and support of our activities.

Based on our desire to be a company that fulfills the needs of the customer and provides products that exceed customer expectations, we have devoted ourselves to providing good and affordable products as quickly as possible. In the face of the shrinking automobile market in Japan, we are hoping to lift people’s spirits by going back to basics and providing people in Japan new values for an automobile.

To achieve this, we began development of CR-Z with a strong sense of commitment to develop a vehicle which empowers people with the joy of driving.  With our hybrid technologies, we were able to perfect the CR-Z as a vehicle which is fun to drive, but also highly fuel efficient and environmentally responsible – this is what people demand today and in the future.

Honda believes that achieving the widespread use of hybrid vehicles should be our priority at this moment, in the effort to address global environmental issues. Exactly one year ago, we introduced the Insight, which has been well received by numerous customers due to its affordable price. Today, we are introducing CR-Z which offers completely different values than those of conventional hybrid vehicles.

Ladies and gentlemen, please take a look at the all-new CR-Z hybrid vehicle.

The CR-Z achieves both the fun of driving and exceptional environmental performance at a high level. Honda’s original compact and lightweight hybrid system made it possible to limit an increase in the total weight of the vehicle.

At Honda, we have a longstanding belief that our automobiles should be lightweight and must be fun to drive. The first-generation CR-X and NSX, projects for which I was a member of the development teams, were developed under the concept of maximizing the engine performance by making the vehicle lighter.

When I test-drove the CR-Z prototype last fall, I realized that, more than anything, it is a car that is fun to drive. I sometimes hear tough opinions about how Honda has lost the ability to create vehicles that only Honda can make, but I am confident that CR-Z is a vehicle unique to Honda and goes beyond the expectations of our customers.

Now, Mr. Tomobe who led the development of the CR-Z will present a detailed explanation of the vehicle and its features. Once again, thank you very much for your attendance today.
