| Honda's Komame Mini-Tiller F220 Undergoes Its First Full Model Change in 20 Years
|
Tokyo, January 23, 2001
--- Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that on January 24, 2001, Honda Power Products
dealers will begin sales of an all-new version of the company's "Komame"
mini-tiller F220. Popular for its compact, lightweight design and easy usability,
the Komame has sold over 550,000 units worldwide, and the new model marks the
first full design change in 20 years. (Release of the F220BA/QA and F220JA is
scheduled for February 25 and March 20 respectively).
For twenty years, farmers and home gardeners have regarded the Komame mini-tiller
as a convenient, easy-to-use alternative to the traditional hoe, and it has played
an important role in creating and expanding the small farming equipment market.
Honda has now upgraded the Komame's time-tested high utility with a completely
redesigned and updated model offering significantly better environmental performance
--- including clearance of 2006 EPA emissions standards and 30% better fuel economy
(compared to the earlier F210) --- as well as a smaller, lighter design, and improved
operation and usability. It also features a specially developed new OHV engine
that helps reduce operating noise to an ultra-low 80dB(A).
The new Komame mini-tiller standard model (F220J) offers fuller features, improved
functionality, and better environmental performance, while retaining the same
retail pricing as that of the previous model.
To help expand within the domestic home gardening market, Honda will also market
versions of the Komame through home gardening centers under the name "Holiday"
(FH220). Sales of Holiday series models will begin on March 1, 2001 at selected
home gardening center agents.
Primary Features (Komame F220)
Easy to Use
 |
Specially
developed 4-stroke OHV engine reduces the Komame's weight to only 27 kilograms,
the lightest in its class.
|
 |
Specially designed recoil starting system reduces pull-cord load by 30% to ensure light, smooth, reliable starts.
|
 |
Light, easy-to-grip clutch lever helps reduce fatigue even during extended continuous use.
|
 |
Newly designed tiller blades help prevent side-to-side rocking, greatly reducing the amount of handle manipulation required of the operator.
|
High Economy & Good Environmental
Performance
 |
Achieves
the best fuel economy of all models in its class, consuming only about 225cc of
fuel per hour.
|
 |
Engine
exhaust is clean enough to meet the world's strictest emissions standards, including
the Phase II regulations established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA), the voluntary restrictions set for 2008 by the Japan Internal Combustion
Land Engine Association, and the Tier II regulations established by the California
Air Resources Board (CARB).
|
 |
Specially
developed OHV engine, large-capacity "silent" muffler and aircleaner,
soundproofed engine cover, and a specially designed oil pan combine to reduce
engine noise to about 80db(A), the quietest in its class.
|
New Design Ideal for Gardening
 |
Muffler,
fuel tank, aircleaner, recoil starter and other resin parts have all been integrated
efficiently around the engine in a sleekly rounded, user-friendly design, which
makes the mini-tiller more comfortable to use and easier on surrounding cultivated
plants.
|
Variations for Orchard Cultivation,
Home Gardening and Many Other Uses
 |
Models
for use in orchards (QA) feature one-touch 7-position handle height adjustment,
while models for vegetable gardening (BA) include a swinging handle for easier
between-row operation.
|
Full Range of Attachments
 |
A
full range of attachments is available for tilling, furrowing, ridging, between-row
weeding, and other specific cultivation tasks. Main attachments include transport
wheels, ridging and furrowing tools, tilling tools, weeding tools, and field wall-cutting
tools.
|
