April 26, 2014 - P.T. Astra Honda Motor (AHJ), Honda’s joint motorcycle manufacture and distribution company in Indonesia, will compete in the MFJ All Japan Road Race Championship J-GP3 class throughout the 2014 season, represented by Astra Honda Racing Team, with 17-year old rider Gerry Salim, ranked 2nd in last year’s Asia Dream Cup, a program supported by Honda aiming to cultivate future grand prix riders.
The Asia Dream Cup, a category in the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship Series, is a program to select and develop riders from 12 countries in the Asian region including Japan, in aim to develop future grand prix riders. The competition has been a part of the Championship Series since 2012, with racing-spec machines based on Honda’s CBR250R.
Astra Honda Racing Team will, in addition to its current racing commitments in Indonesia, enhance its activities this season by competing in the Asia Dream Cup for the second year straight, and by entry into the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship Series for the entire season. Honda will support the development of Gerry Salim’s career through his participation in the All Japan Road Race Championship, a highly competitive series throughout Asia, and the nurturing of world class riders through Asia Dream Cup advisor and Former grand prix rider Shinya Nakano acting as advisor for the Astra Honda Racing Team to develop world class riders.
Gerry Salim is scheduled to race in the Valencia Grand Prix, the last round of the FIM CEV Repsol International Championship (formerly the Spanish Championship) in which last year’s Asia Dream Cup series champion Hiroki Ono is currently competing.
