‘Made by Global Honda’
HThe
auxiliary engine for the A-type bicycle, the first
product to bear the Honda name, was born in 1947
in a small-town factory in Hamamatsu, a year before
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. was established. In 1949,
Honda began production of the Dream D motorcycle.
Ever since, Honda has been delivering motorcycles
built for high performance and reliability –
offering riding pleasure worldwide. Today, Honda
is implementing a mutual supplementation system,
ensuring that each part and each model is manufactured
and marketed in the most appropriate part of the
world. The 50cc Today scooter, for example, is manufactured
at a joint venture production firm in China (Sundiro
Honda), and exported to Japan, Australia, and New
Zealand. Since July 2002, over 100,000 Today scooters
have been shipped to Japan. |

4-Stroke
Expansion To
enhance the appeal of our motorcycles, Honda has
continued to improve convenience, safety and environment-friendliness.
For example, a combined brake system that balances
front and rear wheel braking force is now installed
on most scooters, and anti-lock braking (ABS) is
now featured on many models. Another advance now
being rolled out is the PGM-FI electronic fuel injection
system, which reduces exhaust emissions and boosts
fuel economy. In 2003, Honda announced compact,
lightweight PGM-FI for 4-stroke 50cc scooters –
a world’s first. Honda now equips almost all
models sold worldwide with 4-stroke engines, contributing
to environmental and resource conservation through
reduced emissions and better fuel efficiency. |

New
Challenges: The N Project Keeping
pace with the lifestyles of today’s youth,
Honda initiated the N Project to design cool new
bikes that emphasize the rider’s individuality.
‘N’ stands for ‘New’: an
internal task force of young associates was given
freedom to design and develop new models that they
themselves would want to buy. The four models developed
by the team to date – the Ape, Zoomer, Bite
and Solo – all feature designs that are simple
and unique, and have won over many young customers. |

35
Million Super Cubs In
November 2002, production of the Super Cub reached
a total of 35 million units. Developed under the
direction of company founder Soichiro Honda, the
Super Cub debuted August 1958 as a new type of versatile
motorcycle that anyone could ride with ease. At
a time when 2-stroke engines were the norm, the
Super Cub was fitted with a high-performance 50cc
4-stroke engine. It also sported a revolutionary
automatic centrifugal clutch that eliminated the
need for manual clutch operation. Such features
propelled the bike to a bestseller status that has
lasted. Currently produced in 14 countries, the
Super Cub is popular with customers in more than
160 countries and territories. |
