Lawnmowers
<< Power Products Home
The demands on lawnmowers are diversifying, and they now must be easier to use and safer, satisfy stricter emission and lower noise requirements, and help in the processing of the cut grass in addition to just cutting the grass.
In 1978, Honda's first walking lawnmower sold in the U.S.A., the HR21, adopted the BBC*1 and other mechanisms, and received a favorable response for its high level of performance, quality and safety. The HST*2 mechanism provides a great degree of operating ease and outstanding workability, and the development of the GCV engine has resulted in a further evolution of Honda lawnmowers. The HRX537 lawnmower that was developed and is produced in the United States is sold around the world. In addition to a normal function that stores the cut grass in the grass bag, it also has a function to discharge grass from the rear of the lawnmower, a mulching function to finely cut up the grass and return it the soil, and a leaf shredder function to cut up fallen leaves. The HRX537 has won high acclaim for its functions to recycle cut grass and fallen leaves and return them to the soil, rather than process them as garbage.

*1 BBC (Blade Brake & Clutch) Mechanism
The BBC mechanism immediately stops rotation of the when the mowing lever is released, and stops the drive when the drive lever is released. Honda was the first company in the world to adopt this safety mechanism, which is called the "Roto-Stop", and it triggered the implementation of regulations by the Federal government that require installation of a mower brake on all lawnmowers that are manufactured and sold within the United States.

*2 HST (Hydrostatic Transmission) Mechanism
This unique hydraulic stepless shifting mechanism developed by Honda allows forward and reverse motion, and acceleration and deceleration to be freely controlled with a single lever. Development of the ultra-compact HST facilitated installation of this type of shifting mechanism for the first time in the world. In addition to lawnmowers, the HST mechanism is used on snow throwers and transport equipment.
