| Goodwood Announces Honda Celebration at The 2005 Festival of Speed |
The 2005 Goodwood Festival of Speed, which takes place on 24 - 26. June this year, was launched in Goodwood Park yesterday in brilliant sunshine, with many well-known drivers taking to the hill during the morning. The Earl of March introduced Honda as the major sponsor and this year’s theme of ‘Racing Colours – National Pride and Culture’, which celebrates the essence of what makes the cars and motorcycles of different countries so typical of their makers' cultures, passions and skills.
Set to make his Festival debut is four-time World Champion Alain Prost. Other star drivers already signed up for the weekend are René Arnoux, Sir Stirling Moss, Jenson Button and Hannu Mikkola.
Each year a magnificent automotive sculpture in front of Goodwood House represents an important motoring milestone. In 2005, Honda celebrates ‘40 Years of Grand Prix Success’, with a stunning collection of Honda cars and motorcycles around the display. Four machines were at Goodwood yesterday to represent this milestone – the 1965 Honda RA272 that won the 1965 Mexican Grand Prix, the 1987 Williams-Honda FW11B in which Nelson Piquet won Honda’s first World Championship, the 2005 BAR-Honda 007, and a Honda RC166 motorcycle like that on which Mike Hailwood was unbeatable in 1966. Lord March was photographed alongside a beautifully dressed Geisha Girl during a photocall outside Goodwood House.
With six Formula One teams set to be here in June, Goodwood will throng to the sound of the McLaren-Mercedes, Williams-BMW, BAR-Honda, Toyota, Renault and World Championship-winning Ferrari in action on the hill, along with many other types of fabulous machinery.
