Motor Sports FACT BOOK

At Honda, what drives us to the challenge of motor sports is the power of dreams.
To challenge our dreams and turn them into reality is our greatest pleasure.
It is a pleasure we know well, and one we want to communicate
and share with people everywhere. At Honda, we have one never-ending
challenge - that is to spread the drama
and excitement of motor sports to as many people as possible.

Challenging to Win!
Honda's fierce dedication to winning F1
F1In 1964, Honda participated in the first F1 world championship held in Japan, and we have continued to push ourselves to the limit on racing circuits around the world ever since. This season marks the second year of our return to F1 racing, and in the CART series this season marks our attempt at a 4th manufacturer's title, and also a 6th consecutive driver's championship. Honda has also entered a 2-door production model in the All Japan GT Driver's Championship, the pinnacle of motor racing in Japan. Four teams in all are competing to win, driving the seasoned 2001 model NSX in this 4-team, 5-car configuration.
Challenging the Future!
The search for future F1 drivers Takuma Sato
Honda founded the Suzuka Racing School in 1995 to cultivate Japan's driving and riding talent for world-class racing. In 1999, we established the Formula Dream Project, a top-rank training program dedicated to the long-range development of driving talent. The school has produced a succession of outstanding drivers, including Takuma Sato, a BAR-Honda F1 team test driver who will be competing in the F1 World Championship starting in 2002, as the driver for the Jordan-Honda team.

Challenging for Fun!
Bringing the fun of motor sports closer to the people F1
F1To help people become more familiar with the fun and excitement of motor sports, Honda creates places and opportunities for the public to look at and even drive its racecars. The Suzuka Circuit, completed in 1961, was Japan's first full-fledged racetrack. Over the years, it has hosted a broad range of events, from F1 and other major international competitions, to local grass-roots races. In addition, the Twin Ring Motegi facility plays host to international motor sports events on its two race courses, an oval track and a road track. In addition, this facility provides opportunities for the public not only to watch races but also to try out the cars and experience some of the exhilaration of racing for themselves.
