Safety technology FACT BOOK

Every life is precious. That's why Honda is committed to making its cars safe not only for the driver and passengers, but for pedestrians as well.
At Honda, we care about people's safety-and that includes all those who are affected by traffic. That's why we work so hard to ensure the safety of pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. Our research begins with collecting and analyzing data from scores of actual accident scenes. We believe that by accumulating an extensive, accurate database, we will be better able to protect people in a broad range of accidents. We are also contributing our own independent ASV research to the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructwre and Transport's ASV (Advanced Safety Vehicle) Project, which is investigating ways to make cars more intelligent for improved traffic safety, accident prevention, and injury reduction.

As part of our ASV2 project, we have expanded our independent research to include not only cars, but motorcycles as well, to develop predictive and preventive safety technologies more closely adapted to real-world accidents. Driver load and injury reduction research vehicle
Driver Load and Injury Reduction Research Pedestrian Protection Research Car-Motorcycle Communication System
Honda is pursuing research into predicting and preventing rear-end collisions through technologies that reduce the load on the driver to alleviate fatigue-related lapses in awareness and judgment.
Honda's predictive and preventive safety research includes systems that improve the driver's night vision, relaying accurate information so the driver can immediately recognize pedestrians on the road ahead.
Honda is developing a unique radio communications system that helps predict and prevent accidents by allowing cars and motorcycles to share information on vehicle type, position, speed, and so on. In the event of a potential accident, the system sends out a visual and audible warning to the driver and rider.

G-CON (G-Force Control)-Honda's own original crash safety technology.Controls the force (G-force) on people at point of impact, resulting in fewer injuries.
[G-CON for the Driver and Passengers]
G-Force Control-Honda's new, collision-safe body design-delivers superior crash protection in both full-frontal and offset collisions. We are presently working to introduce this technology into all our vehicle designs. Our safety R&D objectives are established based on our own independent analysis of crash statistics, and the results confirmed through actual car-to-car collision testing. We are committed to making our already advanced G-CON technology even better.

[G-CON for Pedestrians]
With vehicle styles more varied than ever, the parts of the car that contribute to injuries and fatality are changing. To further improve pedestrian safety, we have developed a new 2nd-generation pedestrian dummy constructed to more closely resemble the human form, with eight data measuring points in the neck, femur, and other locations. Research conducted using this dummy in actual crash tests will give us the detailed knowledge we need to help us further advance our pedestrian protection technologies.
