It all started with a presentation.

The Honda Green Conference 2013 held on December 4, 2013, was a seminal moment in the creation of this article. The Honda Green Conference Highlights Event is a triennial gathering of associates from all across the Honda Group who present and share the best practices in environmental stewardship.
As the culmination of the last three years of environmental efforts, the Highlights Event this year offered a close look at eight case studies selected from across Japan, ranging in size from a comprehensive initiative to develop new production technologies, to individual strategies for reducing office electricity use. The example that captured our attention at Honda Face was the CO2 emissions reduction benefits of a motorcycle logistics reform project presented by Honda Logistic Service Co., Ltd. (HLS).
In a daring reversal of roles, HLS, which transports finished Honda vehicles from factories to dealerships in West Japan, submitted a plan to Honda, its client, to change the company's decade-old method of shipping motorcycles. Together, they succeeded in developing a delivery system that yielded benefits for all—even the dealerships—while also significantly reducing transportation energy, cost, and CO2 emissions.
Taking inspiration from HLS's example, we, the editorial staff at Honda Face, have decided to cover environmental efforts in the transportation domain of Honda operations for the first installment of the 2014 report.
We will introduce the various efforts associates involved in the transportation domain of Honda’s operations are making to conserve the environment. We will also share our experience of following a shipment of motorcycles from factory to dealerships, so that you can learn about what actually happens in Honda’s product transport operations, a facet of its business that the public rarely gets a chance to see. These two reports have been combined to make up this special Transportation Domain edition of Honda Face.
