* At the Tochigi Factory, the tetrachloroethylene content in groundwater exceeded the legal limit (0.01 mg/L or less), and the trichloroethylene content was near the legal limit (0.03 mg/L or less). The factory, however, has never used these two substances. In the Matsuyama-cho District in Moka City, where the Tochigi Plant is located, groundwater pollution by organic chlorine compounds, including tetrachloroethylene and trichloroethylene, was detected. Tochigi Prefecture and Moka City are now monitoring groundwater in areas where these pollutants were detected. (For the monitoring results, please refer to the following Web site: www.city.moka.tochigi.jp/densi/mizukankyou.htm.) The Tochigi Plant will also continue monitoring and measuring these substances.
