The engine is one of the reasons why the CRF250L looked like an insect. I recalled the heart of Kyoshinhei (the God Warrior) in “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind,” an animated film by Hayao Miyazaki, in the scene where his heart was going boom, boom when he came back to life. I felt as if all the parts of the CRF250L had been born from this naked engine.

Certainly an engine is the heart of a motorcycle. But I had never considered this with such a feeling of vitality before. It is curious to see the distinctive deformation of parts produced through a camera lens. Some of the parts I know well looked mysteriously different. I couldn’t help checking the CRF250L again and again to see if there were such parts.
