Stefan Everts Completes Another Double Moto Haul In Sweden

CAS Honda's Gordon Crockard continues to bounce back to form after a run of early season injuries. Riding a 450F Honda four stroke machine, the Ulsterman fought back from a top ten start to take fourth position, although at some distance from third place and championship leader Mickael Pichon (Suzuki).

Factory Yamaha rider Stefan Everts made headlines again this afternoon after the Belgian achieved another double moto victory in both the 125 and Motocross GP class at Uddevalla, Sweden, round seven of twelve in the FIM Motocross World Championships. It was his 61st career victory and second 'double' of the season (recorded consecutively) meaning he has now secured four races in a row. He was followed across the line by Joel Smets (KTM).

The GP took place in front of 21,000 fans and under sweltering Swedish sunshine that baked the rough circuit. Heavy rain during the days leading up to the race had produced a difficult surface, deep ruts making passing difficult and racing processional much of the time.

The Motocross GP event was, as usual, the main draw and Crockard recovered from a shaky opening few laps to take the British CAS Honda team's best result with fourth position. Crockard has been hit with shoulder and hand injuries this season but has already scored two podium positions and currently lies eighth in the World Championships standings.

Former Japanese Champion, Yoshitaka Atsuta, like Crockard riding a 450F, steered his machine to eighth and his fourth consecutive top ten finish in only his second year on the World Championship stage. Josh Coppins continued his comeback from a serious pre-season back injury to take tenth while Team Tiscali rider Brian Jorgensen soldiered on to score seventh after struggling with a rear brake for most of the 35 minute and 2 lap race distance. The Dane is Honda's top rider in the standings with fourth place and one podium result, and remains 47 points behind third placed Joel Smets after seven races.

The eighth round of the World Championships takes place in two weeks time at Namur in Belgium.
