Joshua Coppins took the holeshot. Despite an injured ankle, he entered the closing stages in 3rd place and vying for 2nd, but slipped back to 7th after a crash pad flew into his path and made him come off. He still managed to pass two more riders on the last two laps to take 5th place. Beirer also had a fine start before making contact on the opening lap and coming off, but he fought back magnificently from the back of the field and was 9th past the finish line. In the 500cc class, Andrea Bartolini took 3rd place and a second podium finish of the season for the CRF450R.
