Conditions for the race were muddy and slippery due to rain, but Frederic Bolley was able to move into a favorable 5th position on the opening lap. The top riders of each team, Pit Beirer (Yamaha), Michael Pichon (Suzuki), Claudio Federici (Yamaha), Chad Reed (Kawasaki) and Bolley, kept in a tight line without any change in position until the middle stage of the race. Bolley began pushing forward in the second half of the race, but agonizingly missed out on a podium place after taking the checkered flag in 4th place.
