Toni Bou Wins Day Two and Extends His Championship Lead

It was a weekend of double wins for Toni Bou and the Repsol Honda team as he dominated day two of the Grand Prix of Great Britain. His nearest rival in the championship Adam Raga – Gas Gas rescued second place in the event by a single point from Jeroni Fajardo - Beta. Bou has now opened up a ten point lead at the top of the championship. After crashing on day one in section twelve on the final lap, Takahisa Fujinami –Repsol Honda rode a brave event, in pain from his troubled knee injury, to move closer in the championship to the third position.

It was a return to the tiny village of Nord Vue near Penrith in the North of the country for day two of round six of this year’s World Trial Championship. Included in the four kilometer lap of twelve sections. which had to be attempted over three laps, was a mixture of rocks and climbs in the quarry and wooded areas. Three of the sections had been changed for the second day. In contrast to day one the second day was greeted with warm sunshine for the crowd of around 4,000 who attended the event.

It was a very confident Toni Bou – Repsol Honda who started day two in Great Britain. As his nearest championship rival Adam Raga – Gas Gas parted with thirteen marks on his first lap Bou lost just a single five mark penalty on the difficult Section eight to take an early lead. Jeroni Fajardo – Beta also equalled Raga’s score of thirteen. Takahisa Fujinami – Repsol Honda was in pain from his damaged knee and was well off the scores of the leading riders with much work to do if he was to make a strong challenge for the top three.

On the second lap with the crowd enjoying the sunshine Bou again took a five mark penalty on section eight as Fajardo and Fujinami both parted with twelve marks. Raga was just behind them on fifteen needing a good last lap to move back into second position. It was home rider James Dabill – Beta who posted the best lap score on the final lap but Fajardo, with 11 marks, to Raga’s 7, lost out on second place overall by one mark. Bou lost two fives to take yet again another clear win and boost the chances of retaining his World Championship crown. Fujinami continued his brave fight to come home in fifth position and pull back some marks as he continues his fight to finish in third position in the championship standings.

Round seven of the Championship will take place next weekend, Sunday, July 27 at the Pyrenean ski resort of La Mongie in the France.

“I am so happy to take the win today and extend my championship lead. It was important to take the two wins in Great Britain and the ten point lead in the championship is what I was looking for. At this moment I am feeling very confident and as you can see this is reflected in my low scoring rides on both of the days”

Trial result: 5th - Championship position: 4th
“The pain in my damaged knee has restricted my performance today but I continue the fight for third position in the championship. I started badly on the opening lap but I came back very strong on the last two laps which I am very happy with”
