Honda takes a comprehensive approach to all levels
of active and passive safety in developing technologies, functions and equipment
that support safe driving and reduce injuries.
Honda will continue to advance its innovative research including intelligent technologies to prevent accidents as we pursue safety for everyone in todays mobile world. |
| Intelligent Night Vision System
Pedestrian-warning system that detects the presence
of pedestrians in the vehicles path at night and delivers cautions to driver.
HIDS (Honda Intelligent Driver Support)
Reduces driver load and fatigue when driving on expressways.
- LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist System) monitors a vehicles
lane based on the image captured by an onboard camera, then provides the appropriate
amount of steering assistance required to maintain the vehicle in its lane.
- IHCC (Intelligent Highway Cruise Control ) users radar to measure distance to the car in front and maintain a safedistance. AFS (Adaptive Front lighting System)
Controls left and right movement of the headlamps
in response to steering inputs, keeping the direction of travel lit when turning.
|
VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist)
Adds side-slip control to ABS and TCS to maintain
vehicle stability when cornering or travelling on slippery road surfaces. ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) , TCS (Traction Control System) Brake Assist
Increases brake pressure to boost brake operation
when the system assesses a braking situation to be imminent.
EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution)j
Maintains consistent brake performance even as the
number of vehicle occupants or load-weight increases.
|
Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMS) and E-pretensioner
Milliwave radar assesses the distance to a vehicle
ahead. If the system detects risk of
a collision, it alerts the driver, applies light braking and operates the seatbelt pretensioner to reduce impact force. |

Crash Compatibility Body
At the same time as maintaining cabin integrity and
dramatically reducing direct injury to occupants, the crash compatibility body
also reduces impact severity on other vehicles in a collision.
Pedestrian Injury Reduction Body
Uses impact-absorbing structures for the hood, fenders,
bumpers and other parts to reduce head and leg injuries in the event of collision
with a pedestrian.

Indoor Omnidirectional Crash
Test Facility Advances research into actual accident situations
through the worlds first indoor vehicle-to-vehicle crash test facility.
![]() 2nd Generation Pedestrian Dummy
Dummy construction closely resembles the human form.
This enables accurate injury estimation during accident simulator, and the information
is then used in the development of the pedestrian injury reduction vehicle body.

With our sights set on cleaner mobility, we have
been involved in exhaust gas purification and fuel-efficiency developments for
our powertrains
from engines through exhaust systems to produce next-generation clean systems that are always a step ahead of the times. For the future, Honda will continue to aggressively promote pollution control measures, increased efficiency and recycling in all our activities. |
| i-VTEC
A step up in intelligent engines that adds VTC (Variable
Timing Control) to VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control System),
further raising both power output and fuel-efficiency.
i-VTEC Variable Cylinder
Management (VCM) System Intelligent VTEC system that switches between combustion
in all six cylinders and just three cylinders of a V6 engine. This yields high
power output and torque together with excellent fuel economy.
|
VTEC
Hondas original Variable Valve Timing and Lift
Electronic Control System that achieves both powerful motoring and high fuel-efficiency.
i-DSI (Dual & Sequential Ignition)
An intelligent system that controls two sequentially
igniting spark plugs per cylinder to enable faster combustion at all engine speeds.
This achieves a dramatic improvement in fuel efficiency.
|
![]() New Honda IMA System
Incorporates an i-DSI engine that deactivates cylinders
during deceleration, and motor assist to realize excellent fuel economy and exceptional
recharging efficiency.
|
Honda IMA System
Employs a VTEC engine as its main power source backed
by motor assist to achieve excellent fuel economy. And the Honda IMA System-a
hybrid engine system installed in the Honda Insight-achieves world top-level fuel
economy at 36km/ *.
*Volume production gasoline engined car (10-15 mode, 5-speed MT) |
| Honda FCX
AGenerates electricity from hydrogen and oxygen to
drive an electric motor. Honda FCX combines a fuel cell stack and ultra-capacitor
with an onboard high-pressure pure hydrogen tank. The system achieves clean performance
with zero emissions of CO2 and NOx.
|
Civic GX
Employs a VTEC engine running on natural gas to reduce
CO, HC and NOx emissions to zero and greatly reduces CO2 levels compared to a
gasoline engine.
|
|
High-efficiency exhaust gas purification system
In addition to the highly efficient combustion in
all our engines, Honda employs specialized techniques to its exhaust systems and
high-density catalyzers to suppress exhaust pollutants and achieve ultra-clean-running
powertrains.
