January 02-16, 2016
The two weeks of racing have ended in Team HRC’s fourth year back in the Dakar Rally, but the entourage will come home disappointed after a bad run of luck put an end to what had appeared to be a promising opening week.
The Dakar is a rally raid race held off-road through deserts and over mountains. Known as the toughest motorsports event in the world, Dakar takes place on over 8,000 km of completely unpaved road and spans approximately two weeks. The inaugural Dakar was held in 1979. It has been held yearly except for its cancellation in 2008. The 38th edition will be held in 2016. After Honda made its first Moto category appearance in the third Dakar, the winner crossed the finish on a Honda bike five times during the nine years between 1981 until 1989. After a 24-year absence, Honda returned to the Dakar in 2013. For this race, it developed the CRF450 Rally developed as Honda's factory machine. In its fourth year after returning to the Dakar, Honda’s factory team “Team HRC,” armed with 2016 CRF450 RALLY to win its first title in 27 years, since its Paris Dakar victory in 1988.
