Honda unveils exhibition model to showcase next-generation plug-in hybrid technologies

At the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, Honda unveiled an exhibition model to showcase next-generation plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technologies. The exhibition model combines a specially developed high-efficiency 2.0 L i-VTEC engine with two high-output electric motors that enable it to run in three different modes: all-electric, gasoline-electric, and engine direct-drive. Its high-capacity, lithium-ion battery achieves a range of approximately 10-15 miles in all-electric mode.

Honda is engaged in ongoing efforts to advance electromotive technologies, and the popularization of hybrid vehicles has been a high priority during this development process. By adding plug-in hybrid vehicles to its product lineup, Honda hopes to accelerate the adoption of hybrid models, thereby helping to further reduce CO2 emissions.

Honda began Electric Vehicle Testing Programs featuring a midsize plug-in hybrid vehicle in 2010 in Japan and the US. These programs will assess the practicality and convenience of plug-in hybrid models to address customer needs in advance of a planned release of a production vehicle in 2012.
