Round 1Double Podium for Repsol Honda Riders in Season Opener

Obviously a fantastic way to start the season, what’s your evaluation?

Yes, this is a perfect start to have both Marc and Dani on the podium in the first race of the year. It’s especially important for Marc to take this win here after missing the majority of pre-season testing as he was unsure of his level with the six week absence from riding. However, he’s once again proven his natural talent and taken and important victory. Also for Dani, this is often a race he struggles at and to claim 3rd place is a great way to start!

What are your thoughts about the other Honda factory riders?

Both Stefan and Alvaro showed great potential and this is positive. It’s a shame that both crashed when they were fighting at the front. They weren’t the only top rider to make a mistake though as we also saw Jorge crash – which is very uncommon for him – so the track must have been quite slippery.

Scott Redding and Nicky Hayden also had a good first outing on the RCV1000R

Yes, they had a fantastic result finishing 7th and 8th respectively. Of course other riders crashing around them promoted them up the table, but nevertheless they did a great job and managed to keep the bike upright and cross the finish line, less than 0.05s apart! The positive element is that especially in the first laps, when their softer tire was fresh, they were able to do very competitive lap times. It was the first race for the RCV1000R and I believe the machine has potential to grow during this season

What do you think of the new MotoGP rules, are they working well?

This season there are several changes in the rules. The Open class seems to work well, and we have seen more close competition especially in the practice. Also the new situation for Ducati, who are basically racing with Open class advantages until they get certain good results, is helping them to be more competitive. This is good for the fans!

Many crashes happened during the MotoGP race. What is your opinion about this?

My feeling is that we should consider starting the Qatar race earlier, as in the desert, in the evening, the temperature drops down quickly and there is also a lot of humidity. The circuit becomes very tricky and we have seen too many crashes

There was a great race also in Moto3 for Honda. What is the news in the class?

Our engineers did a great job this winter, and now our new bike is very competitive. It was good to see many Hondas on top, and Alex did a great job, leading the race almost till the end! I believe this season it will be a very interesting competition for the Moto3 title, and Honda will be there!
