MotoGP 2013 Track Report HRC Team Principal Livio Suppo

Round 3Repsol riders’ reconquest at the home soil

Another fantastic weekend for the Repsol Honda Team, with the second double podium of the 2013 season. How important is Dani’s first win early in the season to confirm he has the same determination than last year to fight for the title?

Jerez has been a great weekend for us! Dani said after Austin that he was happy, because he rediscovered the good feeling with the bike, the same as he had last season, and he proved with this superb race that he was right!

Did you expect to see also Marc Marquez on the podium?

Honestly I believed he had the potential, but we also knew that Dani, Jorge and Vale are very strong in Jerez, so we knew it was not easy. Moreover in the free practice Cal was also very fast… Marc and his team have done a great job, and after the warm up it was clear that he had find the confidence to fight for the podium. They did a great job!

What’s your opinion about Marc’s manoeuvre to overtake Lorenzo on the last corner?

As Jorge said after the race, he thought that Marc was not so close, and he left the “door” open… Marc was very good in taking advantage of that. It is not the first time and probably will not be the last that the final corner of Jerez shows overtakes like this.

With this second successive 1-2 podium finish, is this the best Repsol Honda Team since Doohan-Crivillé era in the 90s?

For sure in this moment the Repsol Honda Team is very strong, but it is always difficult to compare team/riders of different period…

Marquez is the youngest rider ever to lead the premier-class general standings and also to finish on the podium at 3 consecutive premier-class races. But he doesn’t look to be affected by the pressure…

Marc is showing an unbelievable talent, and of course we are very happy! Anyway, he is in his first season in MotoGP and there is no expectation. He just has to learn. Maybe this is helping him not to feel the pressure. Also his character helps him. Last year, in Moto2, he was the favourite and, even if he had a difficult winter due to the problem with his eyes, he was able to dominate the season.

Since the introduction of the MotoGP class, Honda has had 6 victories at Jerez for 5 of Yamaha, but the general comments before the race were that this circuit suits better the Yamahas. What do you think about this?

Sometimes it is difficult to say if a circuit is better for one bike or another, especially as it depends a lot on the riders, as always! In the winter test we did at Jerez in March, the Yamaha riders were very strong, and this is probably why people thought it was a “Yamaha circuit”… but the condition of the test and race was totally different in terms of temperature and weather, and… Dani, Marc and our technicians did a great job!

You will arrive at Le Mans in two weeks with Marc and Dani, first and second in the championship. What are your expectations in France?

People usually says that Le Mans is a “Yamaha circuit”… but we will do all our best to change again this feeling!

Did the team test any special items on the RC213V at Jerez to prepare the next races?

Nothing major, just different setups comparing with the one of the race, to double check and try to find something…
