MotoGP 2013 Track Report HRC Team Principal Livio Suppo

Round 14Marquez deserves 25, Dani doesn't deserve bad luck

Marc Marquez won the race in Aragon and extended his lead in the championship to 39 points, while Dani Pedrosa was forced out of the race on lap six due to the incident in which both Repsol Honda’s riders were involved. What are Honda’s feelings about what happened in Aragon?

It has been a weekend of mixed feelings. First of all we are super sorry for Dani. He was doing a great race and he had a good chance to fight for the win in Aragon. Unfortunately on lap 6, Marc was behind him and when he realized that he was too close, he tried his best to avoid the contact and run out of the racing line, but nevertheless slightly touched, the swing arm of Dani’s bike most probably with his clutch lever, cutting the rear wheel speed sensor and stopping the traction control action. The backup system that switches into a different traction control strategy had no time to activate in this case, as the time between the damage and the next action on the throttle was too short. It is something that very rarely happens, in fact has never happened before, but we will work on it to avoid situations like this in the future.

The saddest consequence of this incident is that HRC loses its dream to see both of its riders fighting for the title in Valencia, isn’t it?

There are still 4 races before the end of the Championship and Dani has the potential to win all of them. It is still not finished!

The general opinion is that the control traction sensor is too exposed. Are you going to revise the position of the cable?

This cable has been in this position for a very long time without any problem at all. Of course we have learned that it is not enough, so we are already working to improve this as the safety of the riders is always the priority.

There are four races to go, three of them in a row in Malaysia, Australia and Japan. What are your expectations?

As I said before, it is still a long way to go and Jorge is very strong. We must remain focused and give the best support to both Dani and Marc.

Alvaro and Stefan had a good weekend in Aragon, fighting with Valentino for the podium. Are you happy with their performances?

They both did a good job, showing that the performance of our bike is good not only in the Factory Team. Of course it is not easy to beat Valentino, but they were fast until the end of the race and we are proud of it.
