Rd.01 Grand Prix of Qatar: Saturday, March 25, 2017
Track action on Saturday was cancelled at Losail International Circuit today, due to torrential rain and standing water on the track. As grid positions for Sunday's race were decided based on combined free practice times, IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia rider Takaaki Nakagami will start from 4th position on the grid, while teammate Khairul Idham Pawi is back on Row 9 in 27th place.
The 30-minute warm up session begins at 4:05 pm local time tomorrow, before the twenty-lap race commences under desert floodlights at 7:20 pm.
Takaaki Nakagami （4th）
“It’s a pity that we could not ride the bike today, but it was definitely the right decision to cancel Qualifying because safety is the most important thing for everybody. Anyway, we can start from 4th position on the grid, which is good. We’ll get our tactics right and win the season-opener!”
Khairul Idham Pawi （27th)
“We came here for nothing today. To be honest, I am a little disappointed at starting from far back of the grid. For sure, I will get the start right and give everything I have to finish with a good result.”
Tadayuki Okada Team Manager
“Considering today’s difficult track conditions, it was a natural decision to cancel all sessions. Despite that, I feel sorry for KIP because he was supposed to bounce back up in qualifying. Anyway, his priority for the race is reaching the checkered-flag and gaining experience. Taka will start the race from a good grid position, so I believe he can fight to win.”
