Race Week

From when to when?

Motorsports events take place over a number of days. Here, we’ll take a close look at the actual schedule during a race week. Although the word ‘week’ is often used, when the week begins and ends depends on whether one is an organizer, promoter, event staff, team member, racer, member of the media or spectator.

For example, article 1.3.1of the paddock section in the sporting regulations states the following:

The Paddock[1], pit boxes[2] and all other facilities must be available to teams at least on the Wednesday prior to a Sunday race.

Further, in the section in which race scheduling is explained (article 1.13.1), the time schedule for the event is defined as follows:

Wed. Arrival & team setup (Assembling the pit box, etc.)
Thur. Arrival & team setup (Same as above.)
10:00 - 17:00 Technical inspection, sporting check, and other formalities
Fri. Free practice
(Times defined for all classes)
Sat Free practice, qualifying
(Times defined for all classes)
Sun. Warm up, race
(Times defined for all classes)
At the Dutch GP, the race was held on Saturday instead of Sunday.
