Rossi Clinches Title with 8th Win of Season!
2nd for Barros and 3rd for Capirossi Completes Clean Sweep!

Valentino Rossi was the runaway winner in the Pacific Grand Prix 500cc race at Motogi, the second event of the season to be held in Japan. Rossi's 8th victory of the year secured him the championship. With Alex Barros and Loris Capirossi finishing in 2nd and 3rd, respectively, this was Honda's third clean sweep of the podium following Round 2 in South Africa and Round 10 in the Czech Republic. In the 250cc race, Tetsuya Harada (Aprilia), Marco Melandri (Aprilia) and Daijiro Katoh made up the leading group, until Melandri fell and caught Katoh who was then forced to retire. Katoh is still 24 points ahead of his nearest rival in the standings, however, and will be aiming to clinch the title in Round 14 in Australia. Youichi Ui (Derbi) was the winner in the 125cc class, while Daniel Pedrosa gained his second podium place in a row with a 3rd place finish. Standings leader Toni Elias retired after a fall and is now chasing the title with a slender advantage of 12 points.
