Dixon Claims Mid-Ohio Pole

Scott Dixon dominated the final round of knockout qualifying Saturday at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to claim his first IZOD IndyCar Series pole in almost two years, in preparation for Sunday’s Honda 200. Dixon best lap of 1:08.0776, set midway through the final, ten-minute qualifying round, was almost threetenths of a second quicker than Ryan Briscoe, who will start second.

Dixon's Target Chip Ganassi Racing teammate and series points leader, Dario Franchitti, will start third,followed by his nearest championship rival, Will Power, in fourth. Ryan Hunter-Reay and hometown favorite Graham Rahal rounded out the final “fast six” qualifying session. Sunday's 85-lap race starts at 2:30 p.m. EDT, with live television coverage on VERSUS.

Scott Dixon (#9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) pole qualifier, first IndyCar pole since Japan 2009, first road course pole since Detroit 2008:
"It's been a pretty smooth weekend, and its nice to be on pole. It's been a long time since [the last] pole for me so it's nice to be back in that situation, but the race is what pays the [championship] points, and points are what we need most right now."
