Power Again Unstoppable in Sao Paulo Qualifying

Race Results >>

Will Power has firmly established himself at the quickest driver in the IZOD IndyCar Series, as the Team Penske driver has opened the 2011 season with four consecutive poles, including Saturday’s effort at the Itaipava Sao Paulo Indy 300, where he decisively claimed the top spot on the grid by four-tenths of a second over Ryan Hunter-Reay.

Brazil marked the second consecutive race for which Power and Hunter-Reay have qualified 1-2, coming on the heels of their qualifying runs at the Grand Prix of Long Beach earlier this month. Scott Dixon, Ryan Briscoe, Graham Rahal and Dario Franchitti rounded out the top six in today’s ‘knockout’ qualifying session. Sunday’s 75-lap race starts at noon EDT, with live television coverage on Versus.

Will Power (#12 Team Penske Honda) pole qualifier, his fourth consecutive and 19th career pole:
200th pole for Team Penske: “It’s good to be starting up front here; there’s a lot less chance of getting caught up in any first-lap accidents. The second session was actually the toughest one for us. I was ‘P5’ near the end and had to put a good lap together to be sure of advancing. I have to say what a fantastic job was done here with the [circuit] repaving. The Sao Paulo track sets a new standard for street circuits it’s the best I’ve ever encountered.”
