Andretti Green Racing's Dan Wheldon only needed to start Sunday's Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix to lock up the IndyCar Series drivers' championship, but the Honda-powered driver did all that and more, finishing fifth at the historic upstate New York road course to succeed his teammate, Tony Kanaan, as IndyCar champion for 2005.

Tony Kanaan and his Andretti Green Racing team took a chance in qualifying Saturday at Watkins Glen International Raceway, but the setup changes they made prior to the final 10-minute “shootout” failed to pan out, as the defending IndyCar Series champion dropped to fifth on the grid for Sunday's Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix.
