This year's turbulent
Belgian Grand Prix saw an aborted start followed by a red flag after a crash,
and when the race was finally restarted again it had to be reduced to 36
laps. In his second race with Benson & Hedges Jordan Honda, Jean Alesi took
6th place. Teammate Jarno Trulli was forced to retire in the closing stages
with engine trouble while in 5th position. Jacques Villeneuve and Olivier
Panis of Lucky Strike B·A·R Honda finished in 8th and 11th places, respectively.
Michael Schumacher took the lead at the start and held on to win his 52nd race, overtaking
Alain Prost's previous record of 51 career wins.
