A fuel cell vehicle produces electricity that drives its electric motor, propelling the vehicle . The fuel used to produce that electricity is hydrogen, an element found in many different materials from which it can be extracted by variety of means. When renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, or hydroelectric power are used to extract hydrogen through water electrolysis, the energy generated is renewable. When fuel cells are used to produce the energy we need for daily life, the water created as a byproduct of electricity production returns to streams and rivers, and can later be used again for the extraction of hydrogen. |
