Accomplished motocross rider, Sam Sunderland took on off-road rallies in 2011, winning two stages of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge and three others in the Australasian Safari. Sam made his debut in the Dakar Rally on January 1st 2012, when he was only 22 years old. After claiming a stunning seventh place finish on stage one of the event, the Dubai based British was forced to retire from the event on the second day due to an electrical problem. Despite the massive disappointment of having to retire, Sunderland had shown impressive pace in his first ever Dakar and was just three minutes off the pace of the leaders when he retired.
With a 13th overall finish in the 2012 Sardinia Rally, (2nd in class), in 2013 Sam finished Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in third position, after five days of leading the overall results of the rally.
Sam Sunderland has continued to gain experience throughout the year and looks forward to the Dakar challenge where he can count on his talent as a fast rider with excellent desert riding skills and the full experience and support of TEAM HRC.
