Second Victory of the Season for Franchitti |
Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada has been the venue for Formula One races in
the past, but on Sunday it was the setting for Round 12 of this year's CART championship.
The sun was shining as the green flag went up at 2:07pm for the start of the circuit's
inaugural CART race. Second-placed Dario Franchitti stayed on the track during a
yellow-flag caution on lap 12, so when leader Cristiano Da Matta pitted the Scot found
himself at the front. He came in for his scheduled pit stop on lap 21, losing his lead
temporarily but maintaining his stunning pace and recording the fastest time of the day on
lap 39. Moving back into the lead after the restart with ten laps to go, Franchitti held on to
clinch his second win of the year, a result which lifts him into second place in the standings.
Meanwhile Tony Kanaan finished third from 13th on the grid.
