CART Championship Series Round 11
Mid-Ohio, USA
Andretti Clinches Third Place and Podium |
In searing temperatures
of over 33°C at the Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course in Lexington, the green
flag was shown at 12:45pm to get Round 11 of the CART championship underway.
The early stages saw four Honda-powered cars in the top ten, led by Tony
Kanaan in 4th place, but Paul Tracy pulled out with mechanical trouble on
lap 24, followed on lap 40 by Dario Franchitti. Kanaan had moved up into
third place before misfortune struck, his car suffering a mechanical problem
which forced him out of the fray with only 13 laps to go. In third place
was now Michael Andretti, and he managed to hold on until the checkered
flag to clinch his third podium of the season. Meanwhile, a ninth-place
finish for Shinji Nakano earned him championship points for the sixth consecutive
race.
