JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, October 26, 2006– ASIMO, Honda's advanced humanoid robot, made a debut appearance in Africa, at Auto Africa 2006, South Africa's premier motor show.

ASIMO is at the motor show until the 5th November. During this time ASIMO will perform a number of public demonstrations, which will provide visitors with an exciting glimpse of how humanoid robots can benefit society in the future.

ASIMO will also be giving special performances to younger members of the local community. These will include technology themed shows for over 1500 schoolchildren. The focus of these events is to reveal through ASIMO the importance of science and to help inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Each show will be hosted by Marcel Pretorius, a popular TV presenter from HIP2B2, a South African science education program. To prepare and train for his starring role, Marcel travelled to the ASIMO Studio in Belgium – the home of ASIMO in the European, Middle East and African region. Commenting, Marcel said:

"ASIMO is a truly remarkable piece of engineering and technology, and I think adults and children alike will be fascinated by how advanced it is."

ASIMO will be at Auto Africa between 26 October and 5 November and will perform 35 shows at the Honda stand.
