On Tuesday 23rd March, 2004, ASIMO visited the MS390 Junior High School in New York's Bronx district. The school was the winning school in the ASIMO Essay Contest. The children waited for ASIMO with bated breath.
ASIMO was welcomed by a brightly colored banner, which had been hand-made by the children of the school. The robot displayed his special abilities in dance, standing on one leg and climbing and descending stairs. At the end of the show, a question and answer session was held, in which the children asked ASIMO many questions. It was clear that the children enjoyed getting to know ASIMO better.
The ASIMO Essay Contest required children to write on the themes of 'The Role of Humanoid Robots in the Future' and 'Why I would like ASIMO to visit my school'. More than 560 children from 23 states in the USA took part in the contest. MS390 Junior High School's 9-member Robot Research Club was selected from among these entries to receive a visit from ASIMO.
