ASIMO, who is currently resident in Thailand, has been extremely busy visiting various locations in the Asia-Pacific region. ASIMO's first assignment of 2004 was the Taiwan Motor Show.
At this event, ASIMO joined the lady presenter in introducing Honda's cars, and succeeded in attracting huge numbers of visitors to the venue.
This was the second time that ASIMO has visited Taipei, but the role as a presenter at the Motor Show meant that ASIMO had a higher profile than during the previous visit. From the initial Press Day on 2nd January, ASIMO was involved in introducing Honda's FCX, F1 cars and S2000, as well as other models in the Honda Booth. ASIMO communicated the passion with which Honda works towards achieving its goals to a great number of visitors. The level of interest in ASIMO was higher even than the previous summer, and during the public opening of the show from 3rd to 11th of January, ASIMO appeared on stage between five and six times a day, drawing total crowds of over 40,000 people.
During the second half of the Honda Booth presentation, ASIMO played a main role, demonstrating the high standards of technology and development that have been incorporated into the bipedal walking mechanism. By demonstrating some of the secrets of his design, ASIMO showed the ability to walk at variable speeds, faster or slower, and in circles or figures of eight on the stage. The highlight of the performance involved ASIMO ascending and descending stairs, and standing on one leg. For this, ASIMO received enthusiastic applause. Finally, ASIMO spoke of Honda's dedication to creating a society where people and robots can exist together and perform further development. ASIMO spoke to the Taiwanese people about Honda's commitment to continue meeting challenges.
ASIMO is currently visiting Thailand, and is scheduled to visit various locations in the Asia-Pacific region this year. ASIMO is an important ambassador for Honda's vision of continually meeting challenges.
