ASIMO's European debut happened at the science symposium entitled From High Tech to Intelligent: the Challenge of Humanoid Robots, held at Darmstadt University in Germany.
On 30th June, Europe's famous scientists, along with students and media representatives, filled an 800 seat auditorium, with video links being provided to a neighboring hall for overflow visitors. A large display was organized within the hall explaining the history and technologies behind Honda's research into bipedal robots, and there were various presentations by European scientists who are engaged in robot research. Honda's ASIMO developers also attended the conference and gave presentations on the history and technology of bipedal robots, as well as the intelligence technologies first released in December last year. This was followed by the appearance of ASIMO, who demonstrated the robot's specialties - walking on two legs and claiming up and down stairs. The assembled audience were amazed to see ASIMO for the first time, and in the question and answer session that followed, everyone seemed to want to ask more about ASIMO. As it was a scientific conference, much of the assembled media was also science related, but ASIMO received significant press coverage in the ordinary media too as a result of this appearance.

This symposium gave Honda the chance to meet and discuss many things with assembled robot technicians from around the world, which will be helpful and effective in future robot research and the evolution of ASIMO. ASIMO will continue to feature in events in Europe, as well as those in Asia and North America. Honda is committed to the continued development of cutting edge technologies in this area.
