ASIMO has been "living" in Thailand since last summer, as a base from which visits are made to other places in Asia and the Pacific region, not only to demonstrate unique technological talent but also to inspire the children of the world. Here, ASIMO is in Australia meeting many local people during motor shows and other events held by Honda dealerships.

On October 10, 2002, ASIMO spent 20 minutes maneuvering stairs, walking, dancing, and greeting in front of about 40 children that came to the special event held at a Honda dealership. On October 14, ASIMO gave a 10-minute demonstration to the Science Minister at the Parliament as part of international friendship promotion.
ASIMO's appearance was a main event indeed at the Sydney Motor Show held on October 17-27, received with applause as always. ASIMO demonstrated some favorite side steps, standing with one foot, going up and down stairs, etc. ASIMO challenged local children in a contest to see who could stand with one foot the longest. ASIMO was seen on TV news and newspapers proving that the trip to Australia was a big success.

ASIMO gave three 20-minute performances a day for 3 days on the weekend of October 18-20 and many visitors crowded the Honda booth to see the show. Children sat in front of the crowd to watch ASIMO go up and down stairs and walk around the stage, and listen as the humanoid told the audience how much ASIMO liked the city of Sydney.
The local TV host called the children onstage to play a game with ASIMO. The children, who competed with ASIMO to see who could stand blindfolded on one foot the longest, received a mini ASIMO toy. On the Press Day held on October 17, ASIMO even demonstrated a hula dance to the mass media.
